Interpretation: Kongsi Raya, also known as Gongxi Raya, is a celebration of Malaysia’s diverse society, marked by the rare convergence of the Lunar New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which occurs every 33 years. This joyous occasion symbolizes the harmonious merging of cultures, where different traditions blend and interact seamlessly. The painting beautifully captures the essence of Malaysia’s vibrant social fabric, depicting families from various backgrounds coming together in a Kongsi Raya ‘open house.’ Here, the fusion of traditions showcases the pride Malaysians take in embracing one another's cultures, reinforcing the nation’s identity as a multicultural haven, a melting pot of ethnicities—a living example of a ‘Harmony in DIversity.’
