A Collage of Unity (Historical KL) Series 1A • Acrylic on canvas • 61 x 61 cm • 2019 • by artjamila

Interpretation: As Malaysians, we all know the significance of August 31st, 1957 – it is the day our country marked its independence, and more importantly, the day we began a new chapter in our history as a free nation. The assimilation of the five major ethnics of people in Malaysia (Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan and Iban) with the flying flags reflect the liberation of the mind and spirit of the people of Malaysia, and setting the stage for unleashing full human potential and the drive for excellence. Apart from patriotism, Malaysians from different walks of life, ages, races and religions have a common objective for “UNITY”. This is what “UNITY IN DIVERSITY” is all about. The people of Malaysia together with the buildings in collage of Kuala Lumpur Historical Buildings (in Series 1A), the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan City (in Series 1B), and Putrajaya & Sepang (in Series 1C) reflects the spirit of togetherness in building the infrastructure of the nation.
